And she was <a title=\"Head of state\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Head_of_state\">head of state<\/a> of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days. It was the <a title=\"List of monarchs in Britain by length of reign\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_monarchs_in_Britain_by_length_of_reign\">longest of any British monarch<\/a> and the <a title=\"List of longest-reigning monarchs\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_longest-reigning_monarchs\">longest verified reign of any female monarch in history<\/a>.\r\n<h2><strong>Life History of Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong><\/h2>\r\nElizabeth was born in <a title=\"Mayfair\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mayfair\">Mayfair<\/a>, London. As the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York (later <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"King George VI\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/King_George_VI\">King George\u00a0VI<\/a> and <a title=\"Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Queen_Elizabeth_The_Queen_Mother\">Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother<\/a>). Her father acceded to the throne in 1936 upon <a title=\"Abdication of Edward VIII\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abdication_of_Edward_VIII\">the abdication<\/a> of his brother <a title=\"Edward VIII\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_VIII\">Edward VIII.<\/a>\u00a0 Making the ten-year-old Princess Elizabeth the <a title=\"Heir presumptive\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heir_presumptive\">heir presumptive<\/a>. She was educated privately at home and began to undertake public duties during the Second World War.
