Lyons &amp; Co.\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/J._Lyons_%26_Co.\">J. Lyons &amp; Co.<\/a>, and opened in September 1973 by the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Constable of the Tower of London\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Constable_of_the_Tower_of_London\">Constable of the Tower of London<\/a>, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Sir Richard Hull\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sir_Richard_Hull\">Sir Richard Hull<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Lyons_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tower_Hotel,_London#cite_note-Lyons-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> It was built in a <a title=\"Brutalist architecture\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brutalist_architecture\">Brutalist<\/a> style<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tower_Hotel,_London#cite_note-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> and was voted the second most hated building in London in a 2006 <a title=\"BBC\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC\">BBC<\/a> poll.<sup id=\"cite_ref-3\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tower_Hotel,_London#cite_note-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup>\r\n\r\nJ. Lyons operated the hotel until July 1977 when it was sold for \u00a36.5m to <a title=\"EMI\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/EMI\">EMI Leisure<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Lyons_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tower_Hotel,_London#cite_note-Lyons-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-4\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tower_Hotel,_London#cite_note-4\">[4]<\/a><\/sup> In 1980, EMI Leisure properties, including the Tower Hotel, were sold to <a title=\"Forte Group\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Forte_Group\">Trusthouse Forte<\/a>. The hotel was later acquired by the <a title=\"Thistle Hotels\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thistle_Hotels\">Thistle Hotels<\/a> group.\r\n\r\nThe hotel has 801 rooms, as well as 19 meeting rooms with capacity for up to 600 people. It also has a gym, restaurant, coffee bar, and licensed premises. The hotel is ultimately owned by Singapore-based GuocoLeisure which shifted the hotel into a separate luxury brand called Guoman Hotels, now <a title=\"GLH Hotels\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/GLH_Hotels\">GLH Hotels<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-5\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tower_Hotel,_London#cite_note-5\">[5]<\/a><\/sup>\r\n\r\nIt is frequently used for roof top filming due to its high level view of a skyline including Tower Bridge, Tower of London and the river.<sup class=\"noprint Inline-Template Template-Fact\">[<i><a title=\"Wikipedia:Citation needed\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:Citation_needed\"><span title=\"This claim needs references to reliable sources.
